LINCOLN THROUGH THE YEARS

Discover how Lincoln changed the automotive landscape.

1922: FORD BUYS LINCOLN

Ford purchased the Lincoln Motor Company in an effort to develop stylish and relevant vehicles for every day and age. Henry Ford developed the world's most popular car, but Edsel strived to develop the world's best car.

1924: FORD REINVENTS AMERICAN LUXURY

With the release of the Lincoln Model "L", all eyes turned to Lincoln, excited by Edsel's dedication to luxury design and stylish coachwork.

1924: THE PRESIDENTIAL FAVORITE

Calvin Coolidge choose Lincoln's Model L as his presidential car, propelling Lincoln to develop the official President's car from 1939 to 1972.

1938: INSPIRED BY TRAVEL

Inspired by his time in Europe, Edsel went back to the drawing board to create a new car with a "strictly Continental" look and feel.

1939: THE FIRST CONTINENTAL

Widely regarded as one of the most elegant vehicles to ever grace the roads, the first Lincoln Continental was released to the public and was dubbed "the most beautiful car in the world" by Architect Frank Lloyd Wright, who bought two.

1951: A WORK OF ART

A prominent modern art museum in New York City chose the Continental as one of eight vehicles exhibited as excellent works of art.

1976: LUXURY BY DESIGN

Lincoln begins collaborating with contemporary designers to develop special-edition models. Some of the most well-known luxury fashion brands partner to create iconic designs.

1997: PERFECTING THE SUV

Lincoln releases a full-size luxury SUV - 1988 Navigator. This vehicle will go on to become the #1 selling vehicle in the emerging luxury SUV market.

THE THOUGHTFUL DESIGN THAT MAKES A LINCOLN A LINCOLN

THE GUIDING STAR

The iconic Lincoln star emblem draws its inspiration from the four direction points of the compass. You'll discover a galaxy of stars expressed from the center of the front grille throughout your vehicle's design.

GRAND TOURING

Inspired by the concept of exploration, the Lincoln Grand Touring vehicles provide plug-in hybrid power for an effortless push with a quiet powertrain.

SYMPHONIC CHIMES*

Lincoln adds a human element to automated alerts, with the help of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Every chime in the Lincoln experience is performed by actual musicians and designed to blend information with harmony.

WHISPER QUIET CABIN

Lincoln engineers designed vehicle cabins to serve as peaceful sanctuaries from the outside world. Every sound, from the wind and weather to the engine and road below, is considered and minimized so all that remains is a sense of calm.
