The very idea of "low-mileage oil changes" seems perplexing to some drivers. Manufacturers usually suggest a change after driving on the same oil for 5,000 miles. At one time, 3,000 miles was the recommended point. When did the notion you should request an oil change after too much time passed? The answer is, "Since day one." Oil loses viscosity after too much time passes.

Six months is the suggested time limitation on motor oil. So, you have the suggested to change the oil every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever one comes first. Driver commonly won't ignore the 5,000-mile suggestion. The time one, however, they dismiss at their peril.

When oil becomes too old, it can't do its job properly. An engine might face irreparable damage as a result. So, don't let too much time pass.
